How to Match Colors Fast for Composites in Photoshop

Hey, Creatives! In this video we’ll cover the favorite tried and true method I use most to match colors in Photoshop for composites. It’s fast and quite easy to integrate into your work flow. I use it in nearly every composite either as a base, or final method of asset integration. This is one of many tools you can place into your creative toolbox to pull when you need it.

I used to spend a lot of time getting the “perfect” color match, meticulously tweaking colors with curves, color balance, selective color and other tools. We’ll get into deeper discussions on my feelings of perfection as the channel grows, but learning to trust your vision is key. If it looks right, it is right and getting the experience to know the difference is key. Using tricks like these allow you to spend less time perfecting and more time creating. The main reason I use this method is because it’s fast, effective and makes life easier. Time is money when compositing, retouching and working on commissioned projects and this method is definitely a way to get a good base, if not what you need from the get go.

Things to note when using this method:

- It works great in most cases. Sometimes I’ll use a layer mask on the curves layer and slightly remove the adjustment from skin tones if it’s too heavy.

- Make sure you have the Layer thumbnail selected and not the Layer Mask for the curves. You’ll quickly find out why :D we all do it, often lol

- Pure black and Pure white samples won’t work with this method when matching colors. If you have photos with values that are clipped or pure in value make sure to select the closest range that has color value.

- Make sure to deselect Snap Midtones prior to sampling colors. I don’t like PS defining mid-tones for me. Feel free to try it out and see what works best for you! Everyone has different workflows, might be good for yours.

- Generally speaking, don’t save your target colors as defaults when exiting the Advanced Color Correction Options dialog. If you do you’ll automatically have your selected colors pop in when using this method. It can get annoying if done on accident but can be reverted.

How to Color Match in Photoshop that Looks Real

Easily Match Color with these 5 Simple Steps for composites or photo manipulation in Photoshop CC. In order for the composite to look real and natural, it is essential to have similar lighting and color in all the elements added. In this video, we'll learn a very quick and simple technique to match the color of the subject to that of the background.

STEPS:

1. Our first job would be to match the lighting, that is, the brightness, contrast, the direction of light, brightness of highlights and shadows, etc. We'll accomplish this very simply by using a curves adjustment layer.

2. Then, out next objective would be to match the color. Since we'll be working with adjustment layers and smart objects, every adjustment that we make will be totally non-destructive in nature. Now, we will simply make a copy of the background layer and place it above the element that we want to match the color of.

3. We'll then apply a gaussian blur to the background image layer above the element all the way to a point where the background completely blurs out and all you can see are colors.

4. Then, change the same layer to a clipping mask so that it only applies to the element.

5. Lastly, simply change the blend mode of the blurred background layer to Color and lower down the opacity and you're done!

Hope this video helped you! Thanks for watching!

When you are building a composite image, you have to ensure that each of the objects in your composite have a perspective that matches the image into which they are being placed. In this tutorial, we’re going to talk about how to find the horizon of your image and then how to find the vanishing point of objects you drag into your background and then how to line the objects up along the horizon and match the perspective of both the background image and the element dragged into the photo. We’re using two different cars for this example, but this technique works for people, buildings, animals, still life, and more. Once you know it, you’ll love it!

The Right Way to Place Objects on Grass for Photo Manipulation in Photoshop #AskPiX

Photo compositing in Photoshop can be challenging, especially when anything like hair, grass or fur is involved. Our friend Fidencio just had an issue placing legs on grass as it made them look as if it were floating. Let's see whether we can solve his issue.

The key to great composting or photo manipulation is asking yourself how the scene would look if it was actually happening in real life, and that's the perspective we are going to adhere to in the video. Also, we would learn how to create realistic shadows in Photoshop CC which greatly helps in blending different components into the image.

Make awesome composition & color match with any background using Photoshop | Photoshop composition.

In this video, I'm gonna show you how to match a subject into any background using Photoshop. This is a simple compositing tutorial to match the background.

Before starting, you need to cut out the subject from the image. Then, drag and drop the subject on the background image. I used curves to match the basic color and clip the adjustment to the subject layer. Using the curves again I made the composition look real. After that, I blurred the background a bit so that it looks the focus is on the subject. For overall color matching, I used gradient map, vibrance and added a dark blue solid color with lighten as the blending option.

The final result is an amazing composition where the subject and background are taken from several images.
