Hello and welcome to in the kitchen with matt. I am your host matt taylor. Today I am going to show you how to cook asparagus. I love asparagus it is one of my favorite vegetables. Let’s get started. For the tools and the ingredients, I am using a grill pan, but you can use a sauté pan if you like, I have a knife, I have a pan here, I have a cutting board, I have olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and the star of our show, the asparagus. First what we need to do is cut off the ends of the asparagus. It’s woody and its not very appetizing, it doesn’t taste very good. Just go ahead and cut off an inch and a half to two inches worth. So what I do is I just line them up with my fingers like that, Go ahead and cut them off about that much. And now what we do is we take our pan and we put in the asparagus like this. Okay let’s go ahead and drizzle in some olive oil there, not a whole lot, just a little bit. Ok. Then we will add salt, a generous helping of salt, pepper, and a couple shakes of garlic powder. And you could use fresh garlic if you are going to use a sauté pan. But when I use the grill pan I just use garlic powder. Ok, then you will go in here with your fingers, and mix it all around, like this, just so it gets coated with all the seasonings and with the olive oil. Ok, and now we go ahead and put our pan on the stove and heat it up on medium high. All right once our pan is nice and hot we will come in here and add our asparagus. Like that, and then we will cook it about 3 minutes per side, it is not going to be exact. And what will happen is that the asparagus is going to turn a dark green and it will get some grill marks on there, and it will get a little bit limp once it is ready. Ok and what we will do is go in here and turn them a little bit, get some nice grill marks on there. All right these are done, they have shrunken in size a little bit. They are a little bit limp; see it is a little limp. Go ahead and take these off the grill. All right our asparagus is done. It was really easy to do; if I can do it you can do it. One thing to note, if you want to do this on the barbeque grill do the same exact method that I did, and just cook it on the grill, easy as that. If you want to do it on a sauté pan, that’s great, just prepare the asparagus, add a little bit more oil, and use fresh garlic, that will help, and if you want a little bit of a kick, add some crushed red pepper to kick it up a notch. Sauteed Asparagus - How to cook in three easy steps
Sauteed asparagus with garlic is an elegant dish served in high-end Chinese restaurants. In this article, I want to share with you the quick and easy method of how to saute asparagus with garlic in less than thirty minutes.

4 cloves garlic
2 tbsp vegetable oil
The stir fry sauce (A)
3 tsp light soy sauce
1/4 tsp dark soy sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground white pepper
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp rice wine (optional)
1 tbsp of water
Cornstarch slurry: (B)
1/2 tsp cornstarch
1 tbsp water
- Cut off roughly 3cm from the bottom of each spear of asparagus.
- Peel off the stringy exterior of the bottom half until they got into the tender interior.
- Blanch the asparagus in boiling water for thirty seconds or until the interior turns to semi-transparent.
- Place it immediately in ice water.
- Coarsely chopped a few cloves of garlic, and sauteed until it turns aromatic.
- Add the blanched asparagus, sauteed over high heat for a minute.
- Combine all the ingredients in (A) to make the stir fry sauce. Add to the asparagus.
- Cover the pan for one minute.
- Add a sufficient amount of the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Serve.

Garlic Herb Chicken and Asparagus | Chicken and Asparagus Stir Fry | How to Cook Asparagus in Pan
This is a quick and simple way of cooking the most delicious easy dinner recipe you've ever tasted which will be ready for you and your family in 40 minutes! Often the best way to really get into cooking is finding simple and quick recipes that are delicious and fun to make and easy to bake.
Here are the ingredients:
- 5-6 chicken thighs or boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 tsp black pepper powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 250g asparagus, ends trimmed
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Season chicken with salt and pepper and paprika on both sides.
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Stir in garlic and herbs and cook another 45 seconds or so until the garlic is fragrant.
- Reduce heat to medium, add chicken to pan, and cook for 15 minutes, then flip and cook another 15 minutes.
- Add asparagus.
- Cook, rotating throughout, for 10 minutes until tender and chicken are completely cooked through.
- Serve immediately garnished with freshly cracked black pepper and fresh herbs if desired.

HOW TO MAKE LEMON GARLIC BUTTER SHRIMP RECIPE WITH ASPARAGUS
Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp with Asparagus – So much flavor and so easy to throw together, this shrimp recipe is a winner! Flavorful, juicy shrimp team up with fork-tender asparagus in this easy one-pan meal. The shrimp and asparagus get extra flavor from a simple sauce of lemon juice, butter, herbs and garlic that also add little moisture to this wonderful dish. Low-carb, gluten-free, Whole30 and paleo friendly! Ready in 20 minutes or less, this shrimp recipe with asparagus cooks in one pan and will make all of your family go crazy! A heavy-duty cast iron skillet works best for this dish; you can find one at good kitchen supply stores or order online. If you’re feeding an extra hungry group, serve with cauliflower rice or wild rice.
1.5 lbs (700g) medium raw shrimp, peeled
1 lbs (500g) asparagus (1 bunch) rinsed and trimmed
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
5 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 teaspoons onion powder
Salt and fresh cracked pepper, to taste
1/4 cup (60ml) vegetable stock
1 tablespoon Sriracha (or any hot sauce you like)
Crushed chili pepper flakes, optional
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Fresh chopped parsley or cilantro, for garnish
1. To prepare the garlic butter shrimp recipe with asparagus: place a large non-stick skillet with 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat. Add the asparagus and season to taste. Saute the asparagus until crisp-tender, 4-6 minutes. Remove sauteed asparagus from the pan and set aside.
2. In the same pan, add remaining 2 tablespoons butter and add shrimp. Season with salt and pepper, cook shrimp 1-2 minutes on one side.
3. Add the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and onion powder to the shrimp. Stir to combine and flip the shrimp to cook on the opposite side. Cook shrimp for 1 minute then add 1/4 cup vegetable stock and Sriracha. Allow the sauce to reduce for 1 minute, making sure not to overcook the shrimp.
4. Push the grilled shrimp on the side and add asparagus back to the pan. Stir asparagus to coat them into the sauce and squeeze half of a lemon over the top of the grilled shrimp and asparagus. Allow reheating for 1-2 minutes. Remove grilled shrimp and asparagus from heat, garnish with parsley, lemon slices, and red crushed chili pepper if you like. Serve your shrimp and asparagus immediately, enjoy!
