The Steps to How to Unclog a Toilet:

Step One:
Obtain the bottle of dishwashing liquid from the kitchen and squirt a generous amount into the bottom of the toilet bowl.

Step Two:
Fill a bucket with hot water and tip it into the toilet bowl. Let the hot water and detergent mix together and let sit for a while (around 20 minutes to half an hour).

Step Three:
Pour another bucket of hot water (boiling water) into the pan and watch the clog wash away. It may take a minute or two to work but just be patient. If it doesn't work the first time just repeat the process until it does.

How easy was that! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to my Channel and please leave a comment if you have success with this method.
Till next time,
Cheers.
Uncle Knackers.

When Most DIYers need to do drywall or plaster repairs, they rush out and get a bucket of pre-mixed drywall mud. Though convenient, this joint compound can be a waste! This video from The Honest Carpenter will show you a better solution for doing small drywall and plaster repairs--QUICK SETTING JOINT COMPOUND!

Quick Setting Joint compound is sometimes called Hot Mud in the construction industry, because it hardens by a chemical reaction, rather than an evaporative process like pre-mixed bucket drywall mud.

Quick-setting compound comes in a variety of grades--the various numbers on the bag indicate hardening time -- either 90 minutes, 45 minutes, 20 minutes, or even 5 minutes. This is your working time after you mix it. So, you need to get the quick setting joint compound on the wall before it begins to harden!

HOW TO MIX QUICK SETTING JOINT COMPOUND / DRYWALL MUD / HOT MUD
1) Dip some water into the bottom of your mud pan
2) Dump a little joint compound onto the water
3) Stir joint compound and water back and forth until they begin to mix
4) Look for a consistency similar to peanut butter for most coats
5) If joint compound looks too soupy, add a little more drywall mud powder.
6) If joint compound looks too thick, add a little more water with a sponge

AVOID OVER-MIXING! You just need to get the parts stirred together, then it's ready for use for filling dips, craters and gouges in drywall and plaster repair!

How to Clean a Clogged Shower Cartridge | Ask This Old House

Ask This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey travels to New York City to teach a homeowner how to clean her shower cartridge when it gets clogged

#ThisOldHouse #AskTOH
SUBSCRIBE to This Old House:

Time: 3-4 hours

Cost: $0

Skill Level: Moderate

Tools:
Allen wrench [
Drop cloth [
Open end adjustable wrench [
Toothbrush [

Shopping List:
Vinegar [

Steps for cleaning a clogged shower cartridge:
1. Start by covering up the shower drain with a drop cloth to prevent any pieces from falling down the drain.
2. Remove the handles, escutcheons, and cover plate for the shower valve.
a. This will vary, depending on the manufacturer. In general, look for small circles that could be concealing screws that are holding the handles in place. These can usually be removed with an Allen wrench.
b. Be careful to loosen only the handles and not actually turn them; otherwise, the water will turn on.
3. Shut the hot and cold water lines off. Sometimes, these will be in the wall next to the valve and can be closed with a screwdriver and with a shutoff. If not, the water may need to be shut off at the main line.
4. Loosen the nut holding the shower cartridge in place with an open end adjustable wrench.
5. Carefully pull the shower cartridge straight out of the valve. Do this carefully to prevent any damage to either the cartridge or the valve.
6. Scrub the cartridge until all impurities are off of it. This can be done with any soft bristled brush, including a toothbrush, and a little bit of water.
7. In a bowl, mix a little bit of water and white vinegar. Soak the cartridge in the mixture for a couple of hours.
8. Place the cartridge back in the valve and tighten it in place with the nut.
9. Turn the hot and cold water back on.
10. Add the cover plate, escutcheons, and shower handles based on the manufacturer’s design.

Resources:
Every plumbing manufacturer has a slightly different shower valve, so it’s important to match the manufacturer when buying replacement cartridges. Depending on the shower valve, replacement cartridges can be found online, in plumbing supply houses, or for more common valves, in home centers. The shower valve the homeowner had in this piece was a DaVinci Thermostatic Mixer, which she sourced from AF Supply in Manhattan (

In some cases, the cartridge might just need to be cleaned, which can be done with a little bit of vinegar and a toothbrush, which can be found at any grocery store.

A 4-in-1 screwdriver and a pair of slip joint pliers are needed to remove the trim and access the cartridge. These can also be found at home centers.

How to clear water pipeline at home

How to clear water pipeline at home by Rust Remover...Very often domestic water pipeline gets blocked by heavy rusts etc. Clearing the pipeline is not very easy process. You need some instruments. Mainly, you need an expert plumber who knows everything about the job. This video presents some attempts through which water pipelines are generally cleared at home. Free up pipes clogged with rust using Rust Remover as shown in this video......Please check it up and pass your comment below.... Don’t forget to subscribe the channel......

How To Clear Rusted Pipe To Restore Water Flow Using CLR

Easy way to deal with pipes blocked by heavy rust deposits in non-potable water systems. Free up pipes clogged with rust using CLR (Calcium Lime & Rust Remover) from Jelmar .

Transcript provided for the hearing impaired:
Alright so today on Repairs101 I've got this tap that just will not flow and I looked into it and it's because the pipe that's feeding it is blocked solid with rust. So I'll just show you what I did with that.
So this tap gradually stopped flowing. So I traced the pipes and I figured it must be the mixer or the aerator since the toilet was on the same feed and worked just fine. So I removed the mixer with the intention of cleaning it since I had replaced it only a couple of years before.
It was clean as a whistle -- but it was as clean as a whistle. So obviously the problem was further upstream somewhere. So I opened the valve and... nothing.
Then I shut off the water to the building and I removed the valve stem only to see that it was rusted solid inside. I tried digging at it with a seal pick but it was as hard as iron. So I put a sprayer nozzle on my bottle of CLR and I shot some into the pipe.
Now this is a fairly safe product and you can have a look at their MSDS sheets but I would recommend, strongly, that you do not use this in any water systems that are going to be used for drinking water or in food preparation or in any kind of kitchen application or in the production of food like watering gardens.
Now you can see the CLR softened it right up. So I put a little more in. I let it sit for a few minutes and then I washed it out with clean soapy water. Then I just put the whole assembly back together again.
You know, then I put the stem valve back in, turned the water back on, opened up the valve and waited for it to clear itself.

TIP: Clean inside rusty pipes

Just a quick tip for cleaning the inside of rusted pipes for you next restoration or reclaimed projects
