Americans and the world are going back to work and some play as the cover -19 pandemic continues at different levels in different places. for those of you taking this step back into society and the new normal, here are 5 ways to protect yourself from contracting the virus
I’m Dr. Seun Sowemimo, your friendly bariatric surgeon. I change lives by helping people lose significant weight using bariatric surgery and healthy lifestyle strategies. Since I work with an obese population, I am concerned as they return to work as society reopens in this ongoing pandemic. These 5 precautions will help you save yourself and keep you and those you love safe.
1. maintain a high level of personal hygiene. wash your hands frequently for 20 seconds at least. Avoid or minimize contact with surfaces especially metal surfaces where the corona virus can survive for 3 days and especially surfaces in public places. practice not touching your face and avoid picking your nose. If you must pick, wash your hands before and after. Have a hand sanitizer available at your work desk, in your car and in your bag for regular use.
2. Wear a face mask or covering. This not only protects you but protects others from droplets which are the primary mode of spread of the virus. Also avoid being in close proximity to people not wearing masks especially if they are talking, singing or shouting. Wearing of mask by both people is what gives the maximum level of protection to droplet spread. Remember also to be 6 feet away from other people. If youre close enough to smell their breath then youre too close.
3. Avoid crowds in closed spaces. Droplets can be spread further when people are coughing , laughing, shouting or singing. Some of these are aerosolized meaning they can remain floating in the air for up to 3-8 hours especially in closed spaces. Restaurants and houses of worship are examples of places where this deadly combination of factors can occur. Remember patient 31 in South Korea responsible for spread to 5,000 people by attending religious services and Bishop Gerald Glenn, a Pastor in Virginia who bragged on keeping his church open for a packed service and was dead from virus within a week.
4. Build up your immunity: Eat more fruits and vegetables and whole grains at this time. these contain numerous antioxidants and anti inflammatory bioactives. Foods rich in vitamin C such as pineapple, kiwi, guava, grapefruit and cauliflower help build up the immune system. Also reduce your consumption of animal based foods including milk, eggs, cheese, shrimp, chicken and meat. These have been shown to have pro-inflammatory effects in humans.
5. Plan your workspace from both a physical and a workflow perspective to minimize virus spread. make sure you sit or stand six feet away from coworkers and that there is adequate ventilation. open windows if possible. Make sure there are physical barriers when talking to people e.g plexiglass, masks, face shields. Minimize physical contact and use PPE, hand sanitizers, gloves and hand washing liberally.
Stay on your guard and remember that even though the corona virus is subsiding, it has not gone away and we could even see a spike in cases depending on our collective behavior. Covid-19 is still a disease without a cure but we can protect ourselves give our ourselves the best fighting chance against the disease.

Garlic’s immune-boosting properties come from a heavy concentration of sulfur-containing compounds.

5. Ginger
Ginger is another ingredient many turn to after getting sick.
Ginger may help decrease inflammation,

Spinach is not just because it's rich in vitamin C. It's also packed with numerous antioxidants and beta carotene,

Try to get plain yogurts rather than the kinds that are preflavored and loaded with sugar.
You can sweeten plain yogurt yourself with healthy fruits and a drizzle of honey instead.

Yogurt can also be a great source of vitamin D, so try to select brands fortified with vitamin D.

Vitamin E is key to a healthy immune system.
Nuts, such as almonds, are packed with the vitamin and also have healthy fats.
A half-cup serving, which is about 46 whole, shelled almonds,
provides nearly 100 percent of the recommended daily amount of vitamin E.

9. Turmeric
has also been used for years as an anti-inflammatory in treating both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

When you’re sick, chicken soup is more than just a feel-good food with a placebo effect.
It helps improve symptoms of a cold and also helps protect you from getting sick in the first place.
Poultry, such as chicken and turkey, is high in vitamin B-6.
About 3 ounces of light turkey or chicken meat contains 40 to 50 percent of your daily recommended amount of B-6.

Vitamin B-6 is vital to the formation of new and healthy red blood cells.
Stock or broth made by boiling chicken bones contains gelatin, chondroitin,
and other nutrients helpful for gut healing and immunity.

14. Sunflower seeds
Sunflower seeds are full of nutrients, including phosphorous, magnesium, and vitamin B-6.
They’re also incredibly high in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant.
Vitamin E is important in regulating and maintaining immune system function.
Other foods with high amounts of vitamin E include avocados and dark leafy greens.

8 Ways To Protect Yourself Against Coronavirus COVID-19 | How to Protect Yourself

Here is everything you need to know about the coronavirus or covid-19 and how to protect yourself from it!

1. Wear mask if you have symptomps.

If you are sick: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office.If you are caring for others: If the person who is sick is not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes trouble breathing), then people who live in the home should stay in a different room. When caregivers enter the room of the sick person, they should wear a facemask. Visitors, other than caregivers, are not recommended..

2. Wash Your hands frequently.

The best way to prevent coronavirus is to wash your hands as often as possible. Wet your hands with warm water, then apply a mild soap. Work the soap into a lather for 20-30 seconds, then rinse your hands clean under warm running water.

3. Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth.

You may come into contact with the coronavirus on a surface, like a doorknob or countertop. When this happens, the germs can linger on your hands, so you can easily infect yourself if you touch your face with dirty hands. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth in case the virus is on your skin.

4. Stay away from people who are coughing or sneezing.

Since coronavirus is a respiratory infection, coughing and sneezing are common symptoms. Additionally, coughing and sneezing both release the virus into the air, so they may increase your risk of infection. Keep your distance from people who appear to have symptoms of an upper respiratory infection.

5. Don’t shake hands with people, whether they show symptoms or not.

Unfortunately, people who are infected with coronavirus may spread the illness even if they aren’t showing symptoms.To protect yourself, limit your contact with others just in case. Kindly decline to shake hands until the coronavirus threat is over.

6. Disinfect high-touch surfaces daily using a product that kills viruses.

Unfortunately, coronavirus can linger on surfaces, such as doorknobs, countertops, and faucets. Use a spray disinfectant or bleach wipes to clean these surfaces daily. Make sure the surface stays wet for about 10 minutes so it effectively kills the virus. This limits the risk of the virus lingering on the surfaces and potentially causing an infection.

7. Try not to worry too much if you're not truly at risk.

Myths about coronavirus have spread on social media, sometimes causing unnecessary fear. Get the facts about coronavirus from a reliable source like the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the World Health Organization (WHO). Additionally, it's helpful to fact-check your sources before making any decisions.

8. Visit doctor if you have symptomps.

Call ahead: If you have a medical appointment, call your doctor’s office or emergency department, and tell them you have or may have COVID-19. This will help the office protect themselves and other patients.
