Samsung TV Vertical Lines

I have an older Samsung plasma TV that developed some colored vertical lines during the past year.
Most of the time a simple cleaning will fix the problem so that is what I am attempting during this video.
It may work, it may not. It could be a number of other things, I am simply trying something that doesn't cost anything and that anyone can do at home.
Hopefully what you see here can help you if you have a similar problem.

In this video we will show how to replace the Samsung LED strips that we have listed on the screen. Be sure to match the important information on our product page, when replacing LED strips to be sure the replacement strips are compatible with the originals.
When replacing LED strips, you will have to remove the panel.
Removing the panel can be very difficult. If your TV panel is damaged during the replacement process, you will have to get a replacement TV.
We will start by removing both pieces of the back cover off the TV.
Remove the cover over the T-con board.
Use tape to hold the speakers in place.
Disconnect the key controller and secure it to the chassis with some tape.
Flip the TV over and using a five in one tool or a putty knife or something similar disconnect the bezel from the chassis.
Disconnect the buffer boards from the t-con.
Release the buffer boards from the tabs that secure it. be very careful as this board is very fragile.
Using painters tape or something similar, tape the buffer board to the panel.
Removing the panel is very important. But you must be sure the panel does not flex or bend. If the panel cracks or breaks, you will need to replace your entire TV.
We recommend using a suction cup to lift and remove the panel, but you could also use some thin sheets of plastic or something similar to lift it away.
Using a five in one tool, or putty knife or something similar, pry the panel frame from the chassis.
Separate and lift away the layers of diffusion. You can tape them in the corner to keep them together and in order.
There are some clips that hold the reflector sheet to the panel. They can be released on the board side of the chassis and then pulled out from the panel side. Be sure to look underneath the boards if you cannot locate all of the clips.
Remove the reflector sheet from the chassis. The reflector sheet may be sticky on the backside that is attached to the chassis. Be very careful when removing the sheet, so you do not tear it.
There is a little bit of tape holding these original strips to the chassis. Remove the strips of tape and disconnect the LED strips from the cable, before removing them.
Install the replacement LED strips. To help hold the replacement strips in place, we are using some double sided tape.
Align the strips into position and then connect them to the wire.
Align the reflector sheet on the chassis and reinstall the clips.
Install the layers of diffusion.
Reinstall the frame.
Lift the panel back into position and be sure the corners align correctly.
Release the buffer board and lock it back into position.
Reconnect the buffer boards to the t-con.
Reinstall the bezel and be sure it is properly aligned.
Reinstall the keypad controller.
Reinstall the t-con board cover.
Reinstall both of the back covers.

PLEASE NOTE: The models shown may use various different sets of LED Strips. Please match the original strips in your TV to those in the photo before ordering. 29074A or 29075A can usually be found printed on the small barcode stickers on the strips.

LCD & LED TV Repair - No Picture No Image & Blank Black Screen Flashlight Test - Fix LCD & LED TVs

LED & LCD TV How to Diagnose Symptom of No Image on the Screen
CLICK HERE to BUY TV REPAIR PARTS:

Tutorial for Samsung TV No Image on Screen
Tutorial for Vizio TV No Image on Screen
Tutorial for Sony TV No Image on Screen

This flashlight test will show how to identify if you have any video appearing on the screen and whether or not you have backlights. Within this test, we will show how to determine if the problem is a bad t-con board, bad main board or bad backlight inverters for LCD TVs or LED driver for LED TVs.
Most LCD TVs are made up of a main board, a t-con board, power supply board and backlight inverters. Some TVs have one backlight inverter, some TVs have two backlight inverters and some have the backlight inverter built into the power supply board.
Most LED TVs will have a t-con board, a power supply board, a main board and an LED Driver board. Some LED TVs will have the LED driver board built into the power supply board.
If you have no picture on your screen, the first thing we will want to look at is to see if we have backlights or not. You can do this in a few different ways. The first is by looking through the back of your TV and seeing if you can see white lights shinning through holes on the panel.
You can do this a few different ways. The first is by looking through the vent holes on the back cover of your TV and seeing if you can see white lights shinning through the holes on the panel. Be sure to turn off all the lights in the room. As you can see on the screen, we can see the backlight is on through the top vent on the TV.
If it is too difficult to notice if your backlights are on or not, with the back cover still on, you will need to remove the back cover of your TV and look for the light shining through the panel.
Here is what the chassis looks like with the back cover removed and the backlights working. Once you have determined if you have backlights or not, you can then move on to the next steps.
If your backlights are working, but you have no image on the screen, that means the problem is either the t-con board or the main board. Next, you will want to see if you can hear audio. If you cannot hear audio, try and remember if you had audio immediately after the TV image went away on the screen the original time. Or you can also cycle through the inputs to see if you can hear any audio on any of the inputs. For example you could connect your cable box to your TV and try to find the input for that cable box knowing that it would be sending audio to the TV.
If you do have audio and you do have backlights, I recommend starting by replacing the t-con board as that will be the fix, the majority of the time. If you definitely have no audio and you do have backlights, then the problem could either be the t-con board or the main board. You will need to replace each board individually to see which one fixes the problem.
If you do not have backlights, you will want to turn all of the lights off in the room and get a flashlight. Apply power to your TV and press the menu button on your remote to pull up the menu on the screen. You will not be able to see the menu until you shine a flashlight on the screen.
You may need to twist the flashlight and try different angles to be able to see the menu. As you can see on our screen, the menu shows up and you can even read the AV1 on the screen.
This shows that the TV has no backlights, but the image is showing up on the screen, thus our inverter and LED driver is bad and our T-con and main board are good.
You can see on our screen that I can turn the menu on and off and the image appears and then disappears. At this point you will want to replace the inverter or LED driver or the power supply if it has the inverter or LED driver on it.
So as a brief overview, if your TV does have backlights and has audio, I recommend replacing the t-con board first. If your TV does have backlights but does not have audio, then it is either a bad t-con board or main board, and each board will need to be replaced individually to see which one fixes the problem. If you don't have backlights, but you see an image on the screen with the flashlight, that means that your main board and t-con board are good and that you will need to replace the backlight inverter or backlight inverters on your LCD TV and the LED Driver on your LED TV.

Half of TV Screen Not Working - T-Con Cleaning Repair - Samsung/Vizio/LG TV Support

All Brands T-con Troubleshooting for Half Screen Video

In this video we will look at a common symptom in TVs and one possible cause of the symptom and repair.
The symptom that we are looking at is if your TV is only showing half the picture on the screen. One of the potential causes for this problem, could be a connection on the t-con board. In order to check the connection on the t-con board, first unplug the TV and then remove the screws on the back of the TV, and remove the cover or covers.
Locate the t-con board in your TV and then remove the shield or cover that is over it, if it has one.
We have three connections at this t-con board. The single connection on top, runs to the main board. These other two connections run to the buffer boards on the panel.
If we had no picture on the TV screen, we could check the connection point that goes to the main board, but since we are seeing half the screen, we will focus on these connections at the bottom.
Locate which side the picture is not showing up on your TV and then check the ribbon cable connection on that side.
First be sure the ribbon cable connection is flush and inserted perfectly into the t-con, like shown on the screen.
Be sure it does not look like these images, which are not perfectly inserted.
if the cable is inserted correctly, and you are still seeing the half screen image, the first step is to lift up the tab, and reseat the cable.
If that does not fix the problem, then it is recommended to lift up the tab and clean the connection on the board, and then clean the ribbon cable as well with some isopropyl alcohol.
Be sure the TV is unplugged while doing any of these troubleshooting steps, and wait for the alcohol to dry completely before reconnecting the cable and powering back on the TV.
Reseat the connection and see if you now have the full screen image.
If this does not fix the problem, you can repeat these steps on the connection on the buffer board to see if that fixes the problem. If repeating the steps on the connection on the buffer board does not fix it, then you most likely have a short in the panel.
You would then have to replace the panel, which is most likely not possible, since replacement panels can be very difficult to find and expensive.

LCD TV Repair Tutorial - LCD TV Parts Overview, Common Symptoms & Solutions - How to Fix LCD TVs

Repair review of common LCD TV Problems and Repair
Click Here for LCD TV PARTS:

This video is designed to be a guide for testing and troubleshooting your TV repair. Please note that other complications may exist that aren't addressed in this guide. While we always strive to provide accurate and detailed information, we can't guarantee that it will fix your TV's issues.

*Warranty & Shipping Prices May Vary. Please see Product Page on our website for more information!*

We are going to be giving a general overview of LCD TV Repair in this video and we are going to be taking a look at the different components in LCD TVs and what can go wrong with the components and the symptoms they will show and how to diagnose the problems and how to get them fixed.
Before beginning work, be sure you have unplugged the TV from any power source and that you are properly grounded.
Remove all the screws for the back cover of the TV.
Remove the back panel of the TV.
Identify different parts of the TV. Power supply takes in and distributes power throughout the TV.
Main board typically manages all inputs and outputs for your video and sound.
Backlight Inverter controls your CCFLs and the light source for the TV.
T-con board connects the video from the main board to the panel through the LVDS cable.
Not every TV is the exact same.
There are two different levels of TV repair, component level repair and board replacement repair.
The first thing that could go wrong with the power supply is that the TV will not turn on. Be sure your outlet works and then begin to diagnose the issue and either check components or replace your power supply board.
Some common problems on these power supply boards are bad capacitors with bulgy caps or leaking fluid.
The first sign that the main board could have a problem is if you do not have an image on the screen. Be sure your source video is working correctly. Either replace the problem components on the board or replace the entire board.
The t-con board could show a problem symptom if you are able to hear the show on your screen, but you cannot see the image, there is most likely a problem with your t-con board. The t-con is also known for causing vertical colored lines or half of your screen not having an image.
Backlight inverter problem symptoms turn on the TV and the image only shows for a second and then the image goes black, or if you have a flickering image on your screen it could be the backlight inverter that is causing this problem.

Samsung TV With No Image & Blank Screen & Has Backlights - Samsung LCD TV Troubleshooting Help

Basic tutorial showing how to troubleshoot Samsung LCD with Blank Screen & Has Backlights

Here we have a thirty two inch Samsung LCD TV. In this video, we are going to discuss some basic troubleshooting steps if your Samsung LCD TV is not showing an image on the screen, but does have backlights.
In most Samsung LCD TVs, we have four boards. We have the main board, the power supply board, the backlight inverter. The backlight inverter can sometimes be covered by a plastic or metal shield. We also have the T-con board, the T-con board can also sometimes be covered by a shield. Click the link in the video for more information on the basic functions of these boards.
If you have no image on the screen of your Samsung LCD TV, you will want to first, run the flashlight test to see if your TV has backlights and an image on the screen, when pointing the flashlight at the screen. Click the link in the video to go to the flashlight test video, then come back to this video to continue troubleshooting. After running the flashlight test, you have now been able to determine if your TV has backlights or not and if your TV has an image on the screen while using a flashlight.
If your TV does have backlights, but no image on the screen, continue watching this video for troubleshooting help.
The first thing you will want to do is check the t-con board and the main board, and give them a visual inspection looking for any burnt or damaged components.
Here are some examples of what a puffy capacitor or burnt or damaged component will look like. If you have any damaged components that look this way, you should replace the board. If there is not a replacement board available, you can also try replacing the individual components or purchasing a repair kit. Removing and installing new components requires the ability to be able to solder.
When looking for damaged components or burn marks, you can also look at the bottom side of the board. You would simply, just need to disconnect all of the cables and then remove the screws that hold the board to the panel.
Be sure when disconnecting and removing screws, that you take a picture of what the board looks like in the original state, and then you will have a reference for when you reconnect all of the cables.
If you do not find any damaged or burnt components, then you can also check the LVDS cable to be sure that it is seated properly and that there is no damage visible on it.
Here is an example of what an LVDS cable looks like. If you do see visible damage to the LVDS cable, you can search your TV model number on our website to try and find a replacement.
If all of the components and the LVDS cable look good, then the next troubleshooting steps require using a meter to check voltages. If you are not able to check voltages, then the problem could either be with the main board, the t-con board or the TV panel. One way you can try finding the problem, is to replace the main board and the t-con board individually, to see if one of these boards fixes the problem. This would require you to purchase both boards and then see which one fixes the problem or purchase them individually and see which one fixes the problem.
If you are going to purchase multiple boards and replace them individually, before purchasing be sure to understand the return policy of the company you are purchasing from, as there may be restocking fees or parts that are not returnable.
Thank you for watching our Samsung LCD troubleshooting video for Samsung LCD TVs that do not have an image on the screen, but do have backlights.

How To Fix Samsung LCD TV - Samsung TV Repair (Blank Screen)

This video will take the Honest out of Samsung. This is a how to video showing you how to fix a Samsung LN-4692D LCD HDTV. This video demonstrates how to remove back panel of display, remove faulty t-conn card and replace with a new t-conn card.

This High Definition Television went black less than 2 years after purchase ($3,500). Samsung would not back their product and so it hung on our as decoration for nearly 2 years.

At the time a repair was generally quoted at between $600 - $1000. Naturally I wasn't going to do that. So 2 years later and tens of thousands of pissed off customers later, a fix has been found in the form of a $100 T-Conn card (BN81-01286A).

Please take the time to watch this How-To on repairing your Television!

If you are having similar issues on the top of the screen, you should watch this video on how to replace the Y-Board Upper. If you have lines on the bottom half of the screen, simply follow the same instructions to replace the Y-Board Lower. If the entire screen is messed up, replace both!

The fix has been found in the form of a $100 Y-Board card (BN96-02034A - Upper, BN96-02216A - Lower)

Please take the time to watch this How-To on repairing your Television!
