29 Things That Exist Only in Japan

There are a lot of countries that are famous all over the world for some peculiarities. Japan is, probably one of the most exotic ones. It is known as the Land of the Rising Sun, but it could also be called the Land of singing toilets, the country of the blue traffic light, or the country of vending machines.

Really, Japan is a unique country, different from the rest of the world. Japanese farmers grow square watermelons, people park and lock their umbrella before going inside a building and there’s a whole chain of restaurants all over the country where they serve only canned food. In short, there are so many things that make Japan a whole other world. Get ready to explore!

SUMMARY:
- The Yunessun Spa Resort in Hakone offers its guests the pretty unique experience of splashing around in a vat of pork soup and ramen noodles.
- Specialists make this kind of food from plastic or wax, and it looks just as delicious as the real one.
- Their photo booths, called purikura, allow you to edit photos right on the spot, adding different backgrounds, funny stickers, or writings.
- Japan has more than 5 million of them! Mostly because they save time for people who work late hours, which is a pretty common thing there.
- In 2015, Godzilla was granted citizenship in Tokyo's Shinjuku ward.
- Punctuality is a really big thing there, and train stations do everything possible to avoid a delay.
- While in many other countries slurping is considered rude, in Japan it’s a way to show your appreciation of the dish.
- Japanese people don't eat mayo with salads, meat, and sandwiches; in Japan, people usually use it as a topping for ice-cream or on pancakes.
- World’s shortest escalator is in the basement of More’s Department Store, which is located in the city of Kawasaki. The escalator has only 5 steps and is only 33 inches tall.
- The village of Nagoro used to have a population of 300 people, but less than 40 residents live there now. A local artist, Tsukimi Ayano, made over 300 life-size dolls, most of which look like former residents; and they’re located in various states of action.
- It’s common for Japanese culture to avoid the number 4 because it’s considered to be very unlucky.
- They use a blue color instead of green for traffic lights. The reason for that hides in their language: historically, there was only one word for both colors.
- Japanese kids learn how to clean in many schools because it’s a part of their education.
- Toilets in Japan are very high-tech. To use one, a person should know what all those buttons are for.
- Since Japan is a densely-populated country, they don’t like to waste space. That’s why their parking lots have a smart system. They’re designed like multi-level garages.

28 Very Strange Food Combinations That Taste Great

Ever heard of eating a banana with mayo? Nope, you shouldn't squeeze a healthy portion of mayonnaise on a peeled banana and stuff it into your mouth. But if you sandwich a sliced banana between two pieces of bread and coat it with mayo, you might be in for a pleasant surprise!

And how about dipping pickles into peanut butter? Okay, if you aren't too enthusiastic about it, just try combining these ingredients in a sandwich! In this case, the vinegary flavor of the pickles will dilute the stickiness of the peanut butter, and you might just get hooked! Right, these food combinations do sound pretty wild. But don't knock them just yet! First, give them a try - and who knows, pizza with Nutella might become your favorite dish! Here are 29 bizarre food ideas you should give a go!

SUMMARY:
- Salty, crispy bacon combined with sweet, carb-heavy banana makes a perfect mix.
- You can make a mouthwatering avocado and chocolate milkshake, where the buttery texture of the avocado will perfectly complement the flavor of chocolate.
- Some lovers of experiments replaced breakfast cereal with popcorn. Then they add milk and claim that this dish tastes no worse than its more widespread and popular alternative.
- People have invented countless variations of sweet pizza. But the one with Nutella is by far the most popular.
- Rumor has it that the idea of adding Cheddar cheese to apple pies appeared in England, and then spread (pardon the pun) all over the world.
- To get a mega-delicious salty-sweet combo, sprinkle some olive oil, along with a bit of sea salt, on top of vanilla ice cream.
- Unlike burgers with jam, which are more of a salty-sweet combination, burgers with peanut butter are more of a salt with more salt situation.
- The savory flavor of the vinegar makes the strawberries taste sweeter and complements their juicy nature.
- Those who have never tried this taste combination often think that salt rids watermelon of its sweetness. But the truth is quite the opposite.
- The smoothness of the peanut butter will contrast with the crispness of the bacon, making you crave the experience of combining these products again and again.
- The sweet aftertaste of sriracha will make the oily and sticky peanut butter taste more interesting. And the peanut butter, in turn, will reduce some of the sriracha's spiciness.
- If you want to turn your French fries into something different and exciting, but you don't want to use Nutella, ice cream, or a milkshake, honey will do the trick!
- No classic Greek salad can go without Feta. But this cheese can taste even better when you combine it with fruit; in particular, watermelon.
- Speaking of mixing strawberries with balsamic vinegar, strawberries and basil are just as good.

16 Unusual Restaurants From Countries Around The World

16 unusual restaurants from countries around the world. Ever wonder what the most bizarre and craziest restaurants are in countries around the globe? Cultures around the world have very different ideas of what a casual dining experience should be. From the burger joints of the United States, to the bistros of France, people experience delicious food in very different ways. Some things that wouldn’t be on Mom and Pop’s menu here in America would be: Haggis – The Scottish delicacy of organs cooked inside a sheep’s stomach, Tuna eyeball – The Japanese separate the fish organ to serve on its own., or Hákarl - Anthony Bourdain once called the Icelandic dish of rotting shark meat the most disgusting thing he’s ever eaten.

Summary:
16. Ancient Ram Inn, England: The legendary inn has been listed as one of the most haunted places in the world for centuries, with daily paranormal activities being reported. Built on a pagan burial ground, it’s said to have been a place of child sacrifice before the inn was constructed in 1145.

15. Cabbages & Condoms, Thailand: An odd combination of vegetarianism and safe-sex, this Bangkok restaurant gives out condoms at the end of every meal, and even has their wait staff wear them—on their heads that is. The restaurant’s slogan is “Our food is guaranteed not to cause pregnancy.”

14. Modern Toilet, Taiwan: Food is served to you out of a toilet, while you sit on a toilet, and drink out of a toilet-mug. Now the only question is what do their bathrooms look like? Bizarre, right?

13. Snow Village, Finland: An entire village built out of ice, you can dine in a frozen palace lit by dim LED lighting. Make sure you get there in the right season. Otherwise, you may just find a puddle.

12. Dinner In The Sky: Any location in the world is more beautiful from 150 in the air, and that’s what this novelty service is betting on. Dinner in the sky is available in more than 15 countries, if you’re willing to fork out $40,000 you can have a gourmet dinner above your favorite city. Would you have a dinner in the sky?

11. Heart Attack Grill, Nevada: The infamous restaurant whose spokesperson died in 2011 at the young age of 29, the Heart Attack Grill is known for its intentionally high-caloric meals.

10. Funny Sex, Taiwan: If you’ve ever wanted to dine with a blow-up doll and drink out of a breast-mug, this restaurant is the one for you.

9. Robot Restaurant, Japan: A comic-book come to life, this restaurant features robot fights, robot theater, half-naked waitresses and more neon lights and lasers than your cornea can handle.

8. Disaster Cafe, Spain: Unfortunately, the Disaster Cafe closed in 2015. Before its demise, it had tourists shaking to get inside. The entire restaurant would rumble during dinner at random intervals, allegedly simulating a 7.8 earthquake.

7. Mars 2112, New York: A staple of Times Square in New York City, Mars 2112 has been serving out-of-this-world meals for almost twenty years. As we get closer to travel to commercial space travel, it might have to re-think its interior.

6. O.NOIR, Canada: With its two locations in Montreal and Toronto, O.NOIR has given a new meaning to the term blind date. Diners will experience what it’s like to eat completely blind, as there is no light.

5. Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, Maldives: Located 16 feet below sea level and covered with a transparent dome, diners watch as schools of fish and other aquatic animals live just outside the restaurant.

4. Safe House, Milwaukee: The spy-styled restaurant on a nondescript corner in Milwaukee works exactly as planned.

3. Ninja New York, New York: If you’ve ever wanted to dine in feudal Japan, now you can in the middle of New York City. The entire wait staff are trained acrobats, that jump and roll around the restaurant as they serve you.

2. Cat Cafe, Japan: This coffee shop is known for its frequent feline guests. You can enjoy your coffee or tea while surrounded by some furry friends. At dinner time, the cats all feast together in circles, an odd sight to be sure.

1. Fortezza Medicea, Italy – Would you be able to survive in jail? Well, at this themed restaurant in Italy you can at least try eating like a prisoner. At the Fortezza, you’re served by actual inmates in a cell and eat with plastic sporks.
